mytilene: vatoussa extravaganza

i am fully fully aware that this is yet another enormous post about mytilene. i just took so many pictures of so many beautiful places, i want to make sure i share everything with you. plus, i am about to continue my summer holidays, which means even more picture to share.
i say to myself: nileta, calm down. remember all those days in the winter when you had no time at all and no pictures to share and you just blogged about having no pictures to share? save some for later! but, i am all in... no need to wait until later when you can post it right now.
vatoussa has to be the most beautiful village of lesvos. please please pay close attention to the following (in random order):
a) the means of transportation around the village
b) how vatoussa gets all political in pink
c) the hairdresser's
d) the refreshments
e) the priest's garnments drying out in the sun
f) the wise person who forsees the winter cold and stores some logs in his garage.
i leave you with this song and a salty taste of sea for a long weekend. be back on tuesday to share the last imatioθiki session before eveyone hits the beach.

the photographer, the designer and the model, or how i became a model

* all pictures by athena koutromanos.
remember super sweet irini spinou of sweetcase? well she and athena koutromanos had a wonderful idea and a crazy idea.
the wonderful idea was to create a different kind of lookbook for irini's beautiful accessories, starring every day girls in their favorite outfits and places around town.
the crazy idea was that they asked me to join all the other ladies in their project. so, i became a model for just this day. a super hot summer morning spent in the national gardens - that's the place i picked, as it is my favorite spot in downtown athens. so as you can see i am totally into it, climbing fences and hanging from plants and all... very pro, i tell you :)
but wait! i have to say that both girls were super fun to work with and i loved loved looooved how creative people can get! it's a great idea, what they had, i tell you. keep checking back on athena's blog for the rest of the photo shoots!

mr. giorgos and his chics & ducks

so, we were driving around mytilini and decided to rest and grab a cold drink at this beautiful village called  vatoussa (pictures of my walk around the village to come). i would take the oportunity and introduce you to mr. giorgos, who introduced me to his chics and ducks and gave me permition to enter his truck and take some pictures. mr. giorgos is a travelling chick and duck salesman. he joined us under the shade of the trees and told us about how he met his wife and decided to elope with her. he told us about his kids living abroad and about life and marriage. he was the funniest and sweetest company for our mini break while driving across the island. but that doesn't stop me from feeling sorry for all these birds in their cages.
have a great weekend.

an interview, a bottle of ouzo, a speech and a construction permit

This is an extremely huge post with so many pictures!
I know, but I am so happy and excited about everything I decided to make a post out of it, rather than start acting like a totally crazy person on the street, while jumping up and down.
Last week I had the chance to get interviewed for one of the most prestigious greek fashion magazines, BHMAdonna. You can find the interview here – again sorry for the non-greek speakers. It was great fun and Vassiliki Zioga was super kind and sweet and supportive – I totally thank her for that.
Then a couple of friends and I hopped on a plane and flew across the Aegean to the beautiful island of Lesvos. I will be posting many many pictures in the next few days, but here is a glimpse of our final dinner on the island. We were lucky enough to have some friends take us to Mr. Panagioti’s place. I won’t call it a restaurant, as it is not really one. He and his sweet wife cook whatever’s fresh and they serve you their delicacies and a big bottle of ouzo and if you add some cats and dogs and a whole lot of laughs, you got yourself the perfect vacation.
Please pay close attention to how beautiful Mr. Panagioti’s garden looks...
how he chooses to store his goods...
how everyone should be washing their hands – out in the open surrounded by plants...
how a pot can hold your flowers, greens etc...
how these boats decided to rest on shore after a crazy ride through the waves...

 how happy mr. panagiotis is...
how a playmobil rests on the rocks...
how a simple plastic bowl fits in...
how amazingly tasty bread seems after an hour of swimming...
how one can become creative in the kitchen...
what a good talk looks like...
what a good laugh looks like...

what a cute dog looks like...

But wait! There’s more!
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your votes and support for Best Practices Forum2012. I feel blessed to have been voted in the top 10 Practices for 2012. Tomorrow I will be making a short presentation on what imatiothiki is really all about and would love to see you there. It’s the first time I am talking about imatiothiki on a conference and I am so excited!!!
And lastly, but most importantly, I thank God for finally getting my first permit and license to build my first two holiday houses in Syros. Hopefully more will follow!

the first weekend of july

remember my visit to southern california a couple of years ago to meet up with family and attend this course on ucla? well, this summer my cousins decided to take some greek holiday.
so, we took them to syros, our second home. the morning light was amazing on the house and i couldn't resist taking a picture even though i hadn't had my morning coffee yet.
of course, as promised there was a lot of greek salad and souvlaki....

and just being lazy under the sun - all day long.....

but then deciding to build a castle....
.... and having big family dinners by the sea. i've had so much fun and i can't wait for all of them to get back from their island hopping. yes, i am stuck in athens, while the family travels around syros, mykonos and santorini. but this weekend i'll be showing them around town. i just can't bare the thought of them flying away.
*
other than that, i am taking part in a competition for creative young people. my project is imatioθiki and there is an online voting procedure. please support me with your vote here. all you need to do is log in with your facebook or twitter account and just give me as many stars as you wish! thank you :)
